Translation Math Problems: Transformations in Math

Today’s article will share your information related to translation math problems especially about the transformation. But before that let’s take a look what translation actually is.

Definition of translation

Translation Math Problems: Transformations in Math

A term that is used in geometry that will help you describe a function which moves one object to a certain distance is called as translation. That object is not changed in any directions. It is not re-sized, reflected or rotated. During translation project, each point of the object has to be moved in the same distance and same direction. When you are working on a translation, the beginning object is called as the pre-image. Meanwhile, the object which is after the translation is called as the image. By understanding these two images, at least you are one step ahead to solve any translation math problems.

When you look at certain picture as the example, the pre-image sometimes is in the rust-colored. And the image is in blue color. You can identify these objects because there is an arrow that tells you the direction of which image is moved. Probably, another example of images will tell you which one is the pre-image. You may also be asked to find the image from pre-image or vice versa.

Transformation in Math

To define transformation in Math is very simple. It is a common term to describe four particular ways for manipulating the shape of a line, shape or a point. Pre-image is the term for the original of the object. Meanwhile, the image that is under the transformation is the final position and shape. There are many types of transformation in Math. They are including:

· Reflection

· Translation

· Dilatation

· Rotation

· Point reflection

In order to solve any translation math problems that you may find during transformation work, you should know several important terms related to composition of reflections. Those terms are including:

· Image which means a figure you can see after the transformation

· Pre image which means the figure earlier to the transformation

· Isometry which is a transformation that has function to preserve congruence. So, it means that a transformation that the pre-image and the image have the same angle measurements and same side lengths. These following transformations are maintaining their congruence. They are including:

1. Translation which is a translation that is considered as a direct isometry. The reason is because translation is not only maintaining congruence but also preserving its orientation which is not like rotations and reflections.

2. Reflections

3. Rotations

4. Dilations

By reviewing this important information related to transformation in Math, translation math problems will no longer an issue for you!
